A Day in the Life
The kittens are now 6 weeks and 2 days old. Everything is fabulous and all are quite healthy. Mama is eating 6 times daily just to keep up with the demand..but, soon...all this will change because, on November 8th...Ms. Smoky Mama is scheduled to be spayed. Thus will end the continual sequence, as dictated by Mother Nature, of more and more new kittens coming into this over crowded world. In a way, this makes me sad...because these beautiful beings are innocent and loving and it is a shame that reality is such as it is. So, with this in mind, we shall stop the process and allow Ms. Smoky to grow fat and sassy with her kittens. In time, they, too, will undergo surgery to prevent untold numbers of newborns. Of course, in our special world, all would have a place forever..however; we are quickly reaching maximum density when it comes to population growth...there is only so much room at the Crazy Cat House...aka Feline Funny Farm...
Puppies are doing very well. They have grown huge...and the size of their paws portend for greater things to come...or larger dogs.
The sun is shining, the wind is blowing and all is well.
Off to California on the 9th to create order from chaos...and prepare a new home for all my beloved babies.

Dear Kathy...i know how good you must be feeling inside knowing your babies are so well taken care of, it brings as much joy to you as do your babies themselves. my own kittens are a little over 5 months now and doing fantastic. they are getting SO big! your kittens are so beautiful and precious, and so is Smokey Mamma. thank you for your love and care of them...and thank you for your friendship to me.

The kittens are really beautiful! Your pictures of Smokey Mama and her kittens are beautiful, too. My cat had to be spaded when I adopted her from an animal hospital. She couldn't be adopted until she was spaded, so she can never have kittens. Somehow it doesn't seen fair that she could never have any kittens. But, that's the only way she could be adopted. Her name is Bessie, she's a real nice cat. Great pictures!

I know they will have doubled in size by the time I return. Smoky and all are doing so very well that I count my blessings each and every day. Frogy..I'm so glad that we have become HP friends and followers...your comments and just the 'feeling' I have while reading them is so fun and valuable. I thank you from the bottom of my heart...and, yes, Smoky is a gorgeous, tiny ball of energy and love and the best little mama in the world...I'm away from the kittens right now..it will have been 2 weeks by the time I return and I know I'll be amazed at how they've changed. Smokey Mama's kittens are so cute! Maybe by now you are back home? I'll bet that you notice a big change in the kittens. They seem to grow so fast at those young ages. With all of those cute kittens in your home it would be nearly impossible to stay grumpy or in a bad mood. Smiles all around! Right? :))
Hi Peggy..well, yes, I'm back in SE Kansas..and sometimes, it's "home," and other times; not. Where my kitties are; is home...and for now, they're all still in Kansas. I'm looking for a small SUV or Mini Van to begin the physical move of kitties to Calif. Checking Craigslist in just a few seconds...thank you and, yes....smiles all around for sure~!
Oh, Kath, I checked this out a couple of times just to be cheered by your photos but didn't comment! Do you have a big dog or even a big cat you can teach to drive? Ha
Aw, I love kittens so much! I've had my four cats since they were kittens, and I've enjoyed watching them grow. I am longing for the pitter-patter of little paws again...LOL but my landlord won't let my husband and I have more than four pets. Your kittens are unspeakably adorable! I'm glad you got Smoky Mama spayed; that is the responsible thing to do. It's so unfair when beautiful baby kittens and pups are brought into this world and then have to be euthanized because owners won't spay/neuter their pets :( I was wondering...are you, by any chance, a part of a cat rescue group? There's a reason why I'm asking. My sister has some kittens that need homes very soon, and I DO NOT want them to go to the pound. If you are part of a cat rescue group, do you do transports? I live in California, but I know that many rescue groups do long-distance transports nowadays.

Hi Natalie! I am 100% in agreement with you about spaying and neutering. Smoky Mama just showed up and i was inspired to write a poem about it and that led to the Smoky Mama series. I truly believe in all spay/neuter efforts for the very same reasons you've mentioned. Such a tragic shame; the way in which we, people, can disregard and turn our backs on loving aninmals. Just 2 weeks ago; all the kittens were neutered (all boys!!) along w/several additional recent rescues ... which means that 100 cats are now unable to add to the population of unwanted kittens.
We are alone in our efforts here in SE Kansas and are leaving because we have become overwhelmed w/all the neglect and ignorance...running away...there is only so much one can take and do...back to N. California where we will continue w/our activities for all animals. Much regards and appreciation for your considerate and well thought out comment. I am sorry that we are not a rescue group...I have a friend in Mississippi (much like my friend Al and myself; transplanted Californians in the heartless heartland) who is with In Defense of Animals (based in San Rafael, Ca.)...who transports dogs and cats but, that's quite a leap...if you can go online and check out no kill shelters and groups who aid those who help animals; maybe you'll find an answer for your kittens in need of loving homes. OH how precious are all the kittens and the pictures are so sweet. You are truly their angel. Have a safe move. I know you will be glad to be settled finally..I know it has been a hard process..Hope you get some rest too.
